Monarch Butterfly Sculpture- Texas Discovery Gardens

This a permanent outdoor sculpture in Dallas, Texas. Made in 2017. It is 5 ft wide, and made to withstand wind and rain. The wings are made of Dibond, a sign composite that has two sheets of very thin aluminum sandwiching a polyethylene core. It is formed to the gentle curves of real wings. The head and body are epoxy. The veins, legs, and antennae are aluminum and steel rods. There is a steel support attached to the wings, embedded in the body. It is airbrushed with water based mural paint, and all coated with matte finish Automotive Clear finish.
